Weight Loss & Wellness Programs

The SlimXpress Diet

The SlimXpress™ diet is a high lean protein/moderate low carbohydrate diet. Each client’s diet is customized to meet their particular goals for weight loss and health benefits. The high lean protein intake is to prevent the body from using its own protein stores in muscles, tissues, and cells for energy. This also protects the liver from having to break down large amounts of fat.

Why SlimXpress™ is not a low fat diet

Weight Loss | SlimXpress Diet Program

Over 14,000 clients have successfully lost weight on the SlimXpress™ diet!

No extreme carbohydrate or calorie restrictions

Unique to the SlimXpress™ weight loss and wellness program is the ability to increase the amount of carbohydrates in the diet. We do this through the use of “Merit Meals”. This is NOT the type of low carbohydrate diet that you stay on week after week month after month without taking a break. You are expected to increase the amount of carbohydrates in the diet through “Merit Meals”. We have identified certain supplements, injections and procedures (fat burning accelerators) that can significantly increase the body’s natural metabolic fat burning process. Because of this, after you have been in the Fat Burning Zone for over 48 hours, you have some options. You may choose to try to increase the amount of carbohydrates in your diet while remaining in the “Fat Burning Zone.”

The SlimXpress™ weight loss program has four phases

1. Quick Start: Get into the fat burning zone! Kick start your fat burning metabolism. Four to ten days. During this short phase you have a diet of high lean protein and low carbohydrate vegetables or fruit. During this phase you build up your fat burning potential and rapid fat loss may be achieved. Though the weight loss results may be gratifying long term adherence to this type of diet can be difficult because of the possibility of psychological or physiological cravings for carbohydrates. We have an answer!

2. Modify: This phase is designed to allow dieters to more gradually achieve their weight loss goals. We have available specific supplements and procedures shown to increase the body’s fat burning potential. These fat burning accelerators are designed to allow you to stay in the fat burning zone as you slowly introduce limited amounts of grains, fruits or starchy foods into one meal during the week. We call these meals “Merit Meals”. Additional Merit Meals can be added to the diet based on the weight loss and health goals of the dieter. Your SlimXpress™ weight loss consultant will help you design each Merit Meal to be added to the diet.

SlimXpress is available with HCG, B-12 or Lipotropics!

3. Consolidation: When near your weight loss goal you start the consolation phase. During the consolation phase you are required to introduce more and more Merit Meals into the diet. With the aid of our fat burning accelerators fruit, bread and starchy foods can be reintroduced into most meals while remaining in the fat burning zone. This phase is designed to help in preventing any future massive weight gain. Your SlimXpress™ weight loss consultant will help you design each Merit Meal to be added to the diet.

4. Stabilization: When your goal weight is achieved the supplements needed to increase your fat burning potential will gradually be reduced. At this time a limited amount of fruit, grains and starchy foods will have been introduced into most of your meals on the diet. As the supplements are reduced you will have learned what principles you need to follow to implement a well-balanced diet designed for long term weight control.

Low-carbohydrate diet review: shifting the paradigm.

Hite AH, Berkowitz VG, Berkowitz K. 2011

Source Department of Nutrition, Gillings School of Global Public Health, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA.

Abstract What does a clinician need to know about low-carbohydrate (LC) diets? This review examines and compares the safety and the effectiveness of a LC approach as an alternative to a low-fat (LF), high-carbohydrate diet, the current standard for weight loss and/or chronic disease prevention. In short-term and long-term comparison studies, ad libitum and isocaloric therapeutic diets with varying degrees of carbohydrate restriction perform as well as or better than comparable LF diets with regard to weight loss, lipid levels, glucose and insulin response, blood pressure, and other important cardiovascular risk markers in both normal subjects and those with metabolic and other health-related disorders. The metabolic, hormonal, and appetite signaling effects of carbohydrate reduction suggest an underlying scientific basis for considering it as an alternative approach to LF, high-carbohydrate recommendations in addressing overweight/obesity and chronic disease in America. It is time to embrace Low Carbohydrate diets as a viable option to aid in reversing diabetes mellitus, risk factors for heart disease, and the epidemic of obesity.

University of Connecticut Studies Indicate Ketosis is Safe

SlimXpress | Ketosis Research Volek, JS, et al.: A Ketogenic Diet Favorably Affects Serum Biomarkers for Cardiovascular Disease in Normal-Weight Men. Journal of Nutrition, July 2002.
Volek, JS, et al.: Body Composition and Hormonal Response to a Carbohydrate Restricted Diet. Metabolism, July 2002.

Two recently-published studies show that ketosis, the controversial metabolic process often associated with the Atkins Nutritional Approach(TM), may not only be harmless but may also be beneficial. One study demonstrated that subjects in ketosis, due to a controlled carbohydrate diet, experienced statistically significant improvement in blood markers that have been shown to predict coronary artery disease. This finding clearly refutes the claim that lipids improve solely as a result of weight loss.

The second study found that people lost fat (an average of seven pounds), while actually gaining muscle (an average of two pounds) in only six weeks. In essence these individuals lost an average of five pounds not only preserving their muscle mass, but also increasing it. Both published studies come out of the University of Connecticut's Human Performance Laboratory and were conducted on normal-weight men with normal cholesterol levels.

The first study, "A Ketogenic Diet Favorably Affects Serum Biomarkers for Cardiovascular Disease in Normal-Weight Men", published in the July 2002 issue of the Journal of Nutrition, shows that ketosis is not only harmless but may actually improve the blood markers that have been shown to predict coronary artery disease.

The results showed that fasting TG (triglycerides, fat in the blood) was decreased by 33%, post-meal lipids by 29%, LDL particle size increased, and fasting insulin concentrations by 34% after the ketogenic diet. LDL and total cholesterol were unchanged by the diet, HDL ("good" cholesterol) tended to be slightly increased, suggesting a favorable outcome in this predictor of improved cardiovascular risk.

SlimXpress | Ketogenic Diet

Long term effects of low carb (ketogenic) diets appear safe over long period even for children two years of age.

http://www.hopkinschildrens.org/high-fat-ketogenic-diet-to-control-seizures-is-safe-over-long-term.aspx

“Our study should help put to rest some of the nagging doubts about the long-term safety of the ketogenic (ketosis) diet”

The evidence is based on a study of 101 patients ages 2 to 26 years treated with the ketogenic diet for a minimum of 16 months and for up to eight years at Hopkins Children’s between 1993 and 2008. At the time of the follow-up, patients were off the diet anywhere between eight months and 14 years. Nearly 80 percent of the patients remained either seizure-free or had their seizures reduced by half. Most patients’ seizures did not worsen even years after stopping the diet. During interviews, none of the patients reported adverse cardiovascular side effects such as heart attacks, enlargement of the heart or abnormal plaque buildup in their arteries. One patient reported having high blood pressure.

Only two of the 101 patients reported kidney stones after stopping the diet, the same rate found in the general population not treated with the ketogenic diet, the researchers say.

SlimXpress | Low Carb Myths

Top Ten Low Carb Myths

Myth #1: Carbohydrate restricted diets eliminate fruit, vegetables and all other carbohydrates.

False. Carbohydrate restricted diets do not eliminate nutritionally dense vegetables and fruit. In fact, people following this diet eat more vegetables and eat them more frequently. Fruit such as berries can be consumed in moderate amounts

Myth #2: Low carb diets can cause kidney or liver damage because of the increase in protein consumption.

Not true. According to this study (1) there were no harmful effects from a high protein diet in healthy individuals. Furthermore, low carb diets are high fat, moderate protein diets, and although protein and fat intake are increased as carbohydrate intake drops, the amounts recommended are not harmful to the kidneys or liver. This study (2) shows that a low carb, ketogenic diet can actually help the kidneys heal.
Low Carb Myths

Myth #3: Weight loss on controlled carbohydrate eating plans is caused by calorie restriction.

Actually, there seems to be a “metabolic advantage” (3) from low carb diets in which the resulting weight loss is more than can be explained simply by the reduction in calories. “Biologically speaking, a calorie is certainly not a calorie.” (Manninen 2004) (4)

Myth #4: Controlled carbohydrate programs promote cardiac risk.

Quite the opposite. According to many studies, (1, 2, 3) controlled carbohydrate programs reduce markers for cardiac risk, including reducing blood pressure, fasting glucose, triglycerides and inflammation and increasing HDL cholesterol. In the study (8) performed at Stanford, a low carb diet performed better than three other higher-carb, lower-fat diets in nearly all markers of cardiac risk factors.

Myth #5: Controlled carbohydrate programs are short-term only, and not suitable for long-term adherence.

Many followers of controlled carbohydrate programs consider it a lifestyle. This study (9) followed low carb dieters for three years and concluded that long-term weight maintenance is possible on a low carb diet.

Myth #6: Controlled carbohydrate plans do not promote fat loss, but cause loss of protein/lean body mass and total body water.

False. This study showed how a low carbohydrate (ketosis) diet increased fat loss and increased lean body mass. (10) Controlled carbohydrate plans favorably affect body composition. In this study, (11) participants following a low carb diet lost more fat and less lean body mass compared to those following a low fat diet.

Myth #7: Glucose is the only fuel the brain can use, therefore the body needs dietary glucose in the form of carbohydrates.

Incorrect. “Brain cells are metabolically flexible because they can derive energy from both glucose and ketone bodies (made from fatty acids).” (Seyfried 2003) (12) While the brain does require some glucose to function (which can be made through gluconeogenesis), the majority of its fuel can come from ketones,(13) which are made from fatty acids.

Myth #8: Controlled carbohydrate eating regimens are deficient in vitamins and minerals.

Controlled carbohydrate eating programs allow followers to eat nutritionally dense meat eggs, vegetables, and fruit. By making good food choices, those following a low-carb lifestyle can avoid any nutritional deficiencies.

Myth #9: Weight maintenance is impossible on a controlled carbohydrate eating program.

Wrong. The authors of this study, (9) which followed low carb dieters for three years, stated that “it is possible to achieve and maintain long-term weight loss using a low-carbohydrate diet.”

Myth #10: Ketogenic diets are dangerous.

Much to the contrary. This study (14) found no harmful effects from a chronic ketogenic diet. In addition, the ketogenic diet is being studied for its neuroprotective (15) effects and as therapy for conditions such as Alzheimer’s,(16) cancer, (17) Parkinson’s, (18) diabetes (19) and epilepsy.(20)

Drew Carey: How I Lost 80 lbs.

Drew Carey | Weight Loss BY SARA HAMMEL

Thursday July 29, 2010 12:40 PM EDT

Drew Carey has been known as a loveable, teddy-bear type as far back as his long-running sitcom The Drew Carey Show. But, he says, being big was a burden – and he had to make a change.

"It sucks being fat, you know," Carey, 52, said Wednesday at the CBS, Showtime and The CW TCA Party in Beverly Hills. "I was diabetic with Type-2 diabetes.”

Not anymore. After Carey embarked on a strict regime, shaving his diet of carbohydrates and hitting the gym religiously, he dropped 80 lbs. since January and says, "I'm not diabetic anymore. No medication needed."

By definition, a lipotropic substance decreases the deposit, or speeds up the removal of fat within the liver. These powerful compounds can help detox the liver thus enhancing the livers role of decreasing fat deposits and speeding up metabolism of fat and its removal. The key amino acids used to make these shots are: Vitamin B12, Choline, Methione, and Inositol. Lipotropics have been used successfully by weight loss doctors for the rich and famous for years. And until recently lipotropics were cost prohibitive.

Colon Hydrotherapy (Colonics)

Detoxifying the colon has become one of the most popular therapies commonly recommended by natural health practitioners. For good reason since more than 50 percent of the immune system is located in or around the digestive system, especially the large intestine. This means that until the colon is thoroughly cleansed and the toxins removed, nutrients will not absorb properly, and digestion will be hindered – leading to constipation, gas, bloating, IBS, headaches, bad breath, allergy symptoms, PMS, fatigue, depression, irritability, frequent infections and weight gain...
